3 Ways To Use Rosemary In Your Beauty Routine

Rosemary is a magic holistic ingredient that can help bump your skincare and haircare routines to the next level.

Rosemary Summary:

This wonderful herb is one of our favorites when it comes to skin and hair care. It contains antioxidant and anti-inflammatory compounds. It is also known to help boost the immune system and improve blood circulation. Rosemary can also play an important role in neutralizing harmful particles known as free radicals.

Ok so it sounds pretty cool, but you may now be asking yourself “how the heck do I include it in my beauty routine?” Allow us to give you some ideas.

1) Create a scalp oil for hair growth

Rosemary has blown up recently and we can thank the rosemary hair TikTok trends. Studies have shown that rosemary is just as effective as the treatment Minoxidil, a topical over-the-counter product that is used to improve hair loss. What makes rosemary better than this topical? It carries none of the side effects that Minoxidil does such as acne, inflammation, reddened skin, and even a burning scalp.

There are many ways you can add this to your hair care routine such as adding rosemary oil to your shampoo or creating a hydrosol to spray onto your scalp in between wash days. Our favorite? Rosemary massage oil, and it's extremely easy to make. On a stovetop boil some fresh rosemary sprigs, mint sprigs, and your carrier oil of choice (we like jojoba oil) for a few minutes. Measure with your heart. Allow to cool and then strain into a dropper bottle. Apply and massage into your scalp the night before to 20 minutes before washing your hair.

2) Use a light facial mist for oily, acne-prone, and inflamed skin

This wonderful holistic ingredient acts as an astringent that balances and tones the skin. It has antimicrobial and anti-inflammatory benefits that help oily and acne-prone skin in preventing future breakouts. It is also fantastic at helping control overproductive sebaceous glands. As a bonus, rosemary has non-comedogenic properties which help with clogged pores and can also clear them out to prevent acne.

Our go-to is a simple Rosemary Hydrosol. What’s a hydrosol? This concoction is made using steam distillation with various aromatic plant matter. The plant material is boiled and then simmered which creates steam. The hot steam passes through the plant material and then rises to the top, on its way it passes through ice which cools it down. Is it possible to make a hydrosol at home? Absolutely, but we would rather take the easy route and buy a ready-made one. They are super budget friendly too which is a big plus in our books!

Disclaimer, please do not, under any circumstance, apply rosemary essential oil straight to your face. This is way too strong and can cause intense bad reactions.

3) Use on your whole body to naturally deodorize the skin

Sweat and BO are natural, we get that, but body odor shouldn’t be something we have to put up with just because it's something our body does. Now we’re not saying replace your deodorant with rosemary, please still use something that has been specifically formulated for deodorizing. However, in between those applications, you can add a little rosemary mist to assist.

Body odor is caused by benign bacteria living on your skin and it consumes nutrients that you sweat out that are found in sebum. Being antibacterial, rosemary helps to prevent these bacteria from thriving and releasing odorous compounds.

A great way to start using rosemary for your body is to get a body wash that contains rosemary extract in it. Another way to take advantage is to spray yourself down with a rosemary hydrosol post-shower or maybe even before you get ready for bed.

Conclusion:

There are so many ways to use rosemary to amp up your beauty skin and hair care routines and we’ve only just touched the surface. We want to hear from you. Have you tried any of these methods before? If not, do you plan on it? Want more ideas on how to implement rosemary into your beauty routine? Let us know and we might even dedicate another blog post to this wonderful holistic ingredient.
